Business Manager - Kent Lambton Roman Catholic Family of Parishes
Position: Business Manager Work Location: Kent Lambton Roman Catholic Family of Parishes, Wallaceburg, Ontario (Holy Family – Wallaceburg; Our Lady Help of Christians – Wallaceburg; Sacred Heart – Port-Lambton; St. Michael – Dresden) Commitment: 20 hours per week – schedule and location of work to be determined in consultation with the Pastor to meet business needs. Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience and Diocesan policies. This position is eligible for participation in the lay staff benefits plan and pension program. Posting Date: August 9, 2024
POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Pastor, the Business Manager will oversee and manage the following operational and administrative functions: finance, building and property management, office administration, human resources, communication, and fundraising.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Manages the administration of the FOP business offices to ensure well oriented, efficient, and effective operations in the areas of reception, communications, purchasing, technology, custodial, housekeeping, safety and security.
Supervises and assists the FOP bookkeeper. Including but not limited to: signing authority for payments and contracts, disbursements and completion of required charity returns, HST payments, monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and cash flow, preparation of financial statements including operating and capital budgets and reports, timely preparation of diocesan and government required reports, balancing of A/P and A/R.
Develops plans and actions items regarding the overall health of building assets and maintenance activities. Manages contactors to ensure quality of work and financial accountability.
Obtains assistance, direction and communicates with the Diocesan Centre departments (Finance, Construction and Restoration, Human Resources, IT, Pastoral Ministry, etc.) as required to ensure all actions taken are in compliance with Diocesan and legislative policies, procedures and guidelines.
Makes recommendations, obtains approval as required and takes actions to ensure overall parish financial stability.
Facilitates and directs all FOP fundraising activities to ensure policies and procedures are being followed by the diocese.
Coordinates, supports and attends Finance and Building committee meetings.
Oversees volunteer policies (i.e. Called Gifted and Sent) to ensure they are followed and directs the temporal affairs that volunteers may assist with overseeing property, maintenance and bookings.
Performs human resources-based functions for lay staff positions including: recruitment, retention, training, performance management, employee evaluations, salary administration, attendance management, corrective discipline and termination.
Ensures health and safety protocols are followed in each location, as well as coordinates any training required for staff and volunteers.
Other duties of a similar nature as assigned by the Pastor.
QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES
Degree or diploma in business or finances or extensive practical experience in both is preferred.
Supervisory and/or managerial experience in a professional business environment is required.
Experience working collaboratively with volunteers and/or professional committees or boards is preferred.
Must have strong interpersonal skills along with professional and highly developed verbal and written communication and well developed organizational skills.
Must have advanced and collaborative problem-solving skills,
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft 365.
Must have an understanding of the Catholic faith, the Catholic Church and the Diocese of London, its tenets and culture, along with respect for its leadership, clergy and parishioners. Balancing business and pastoral dynamics of the Church will be imperative.
Requires a willingness and ability to work non-standard work hours including evenings and/or weekends as required to meet business needs (i.e. evening committee meetings).
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
