Position: Full-time Handyperson Work Location: Sarnia Bluewater Roman Catholic Family of Parishes – work locations will include parishes and/or parish halls located in Sarnia, Ontario Commitment: 35 hours per week. Flexibility to work hours on weekends and/or on evenings is required. POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Building Property Coordinator, the Handyperson will be responsible for the timely completion of general maintenance and minor repairs of seven churches and associated structures. This role is vital to ensuring the Family of Parishes’ sacred spaces remain safe, functional, and welcoming for parishioners and visitors.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Performs routine maintenance tasks including but not limited to: painting, minor plumbing, carpentry
Responds to urgent repair needs across the Family of Parishes properties
Maintains building access systems and assists with security upgrades
Coordinates with contractors for specialized repairs
Monitors and maintains tools, supplies, and equipment
Oversees and provides assistance as required to ensure the completion of seasonal tasks such as snow removal, lawn care, gutter cleaning, etc.
Documents completed work and hours by location and reports concerns to the Building Property Coordinator.
Attends on site for evening and weekend events provide oversight and caretaking as required.
Completes other duties of a similar nature as assigned by the Building Property Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Legally eligible to work in Canada without employer sponsorship
Minimum of a grade 12 diploma or recognized equivalent in Ontario
Proven experience in general maintenance and/or trades
Ability to work independently and support multiple sites
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Positively self-motivated with a strong ability to properly prioritize work needs
Ability and willingness to perform tasks of a physical and manual nature safely and efficiently both indoors and outdoors is required
Valid class “G” drivers license and use of personal vehicle is required
Ability and willingness to work a flexible work schedule including varying days of work, varying hours per day and/or work hours in the evenings and/or on weekends is needed
Understanding of and a professional and respectful attitude towards the mission of the Roman Catholic Diocese of London and the Catholic Church is necessary
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
