Horizons of Hope

What is Horizons of Hope?
As Catholics, our faith in Jesus Christ has much to teach us about living and dying well. Horizons of Hope: A Toolkit for Catholic Parishes on Palliative Care is designed to help each of us – caregivers, the sick and dying and family members – to find support and concrete assistance. If comes from the the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) Committee on Palliative Care, which includes a variety of partners and experts to address the increasing complexities regarding end-of-life issues in Canada.

“Horizons of Hope: A Toolkit for Catholic Parishes on Palliative Care” seeks to:

• Empower and educate parishioners by addressing questions surrounding palliative care, dying, death, suffering, accompaniment, and bereavement in a holistic fashion.
• Present high-quality content that explores how palliative care is understood from a perspective of Catholic moral and pastoral theology, medical expertise and the Compassionate Community model.
• Facilitate meaningful conversations together so that our parishes and families become Compassionate communities, grounded in the mercy and tenderness of the living Christ.

Horizons of Hope in the Diocese of London
The St. Joseph Health Care Society, working with our Pastoral Services, has hired Sharon Hunt to promote “Horizons of Hope”. Sharon will be facilitating workshops across the diocese. This is a “train the trainer” model. These groups will help facilitate these workshops for their Family of Parishes. 

Workshops Dates and locations

Each Family of Parishes will send a group of 5 to one of the workshops. The groups should include:

• the pastor or associate priest,
• another member of the pastoral team,
• at least three parishioners who have the gifts to help facilitate a future workshop

We ask that your group attend the location closest to you. If you cannot attend that day, please find an alternate.
 

• May 11, St. Justin Parish, London (Completed. Thank you to everyone who attended)
• May 26, Sacred Heart Parish, Ingersoll
• June 12, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Windsor
• June 16, Our Lady of Mercy, Sarnia

 
All workshops are from 8:30am-4:30pm. Lunch will be provided.
