Housekeeper- South Kent Catholic Family of Parishes
Position: Full-time Cook/Housekeeper Work Location: St. Francis Friary, Blenheim, ON – South Kent Catholic Family of Parishes Commitment: 30 hours per week, Monday – Friday 9 am – 3 pm Compensation: Based on experience and in accordance with Diocesan policies. This position is eligible for participation in the DOL’s lay staff benefits and pension plans. Posting Date: February 28, 2025 Closing Date: March 18, 2025 POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Pastor, the Cook/Housekeeper assists in meal preparation, completes personal and household laundry and general household cleaning of the St. Francis Friary. SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Plans weekly meals, shops for required weekly groceries and/or household cleaning and paper supplies for the priests and their guests.
Prepares, serves and cleans up after the lunch meal (regular schedule is Monday through Friday).
Maintains a clean kitchen before, during and after food preparation. Ensures that all food is properly prepared and stored in a safe and hygienic manner.
Completes laundry (wash, dry, hand wash, iron, fold) clothing and household linens.
Provides other general cleaning on a seasonal and/or as needed basis, i.e. windows, baseboards
Works in a manner consistent with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and is accountable for the timely reporting of any safety concerns to the Guardian and/or Pastor.
Other duties of a similar nature as assigned by the Guardian and/or Pastor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of a grade 12 secondary school diploma or equivalent in Ontario.
Current Ontario Food Handlers certificate.
Familiarity with housekeeping and laundry functions in a residential setting.
Proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Strong focus and desire to provide a high level of customer service. Willing to ask for, accept and incorporate suggestions for improvements in cooking based on food allergies, food preferences and/or requests.
Highly organized and self-motivated with a strong attention to details regarding cleanliness.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Friendly and welcoming personality with a pleasant telephone manner.
Access to a reliable personal vehicle. Valid Ontario driver’s license and adequate personal insurance coverage based on DOL policies and requirements. (Mileage for job related errands is paid).
The tasks within the position will include the following physical demands: bending, squatting, reaching, standing, walking, lifting floor to waist, lifting waist to shoulder, above shoulder activity and pushing and pulling.
Must have a faith-based understanding of the Catholic Church and the Diocese of London, its tenets and culture, along with respect for its leadership, clergy and parishioners.
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate. Note: All new staff are required to complete on-line mandatory training available in English or French. Basic computer and reading proficiency to successfully complete this education is required.
