The Diocese of London serves missions locally and around the globe that "Evangelize" the Good News of the Gospel. The Diocesan Mission Commission logo is a globe with a cross on it.
The concept of a Mission Commission was introduced in 1956 at the First Synod of the Diocese of London. In 1962 a contract was established between the Bishop of Chiclayo and the Bishop of London to send three diocesan priests to the parish of Cayalta-Zana, Peru. During the 60’s the Sisters of St. Joseph and the Ursuline sisters also began serving in Peru. Between 1961 and 1993 eighteen priests from the Diocese of London provided spiritual direction and temporal administration to the faithful in Peru.
By 1964 the Diocese had established a Diocesan mission director, organized special collections for the 4 Pontifical Mission Societies and implemented a "Missionary Cooperation Plan" (whereby missionaries could visit parishes to make appeals). In 1969 a Mission Office was established and a "Mission Adoption Plan" was introduced to all parishes.
The Bishop of the Diocese of London is the permanent chair of the mission commission and the day to day operations are coordinated by the Diocesan Mission Director. The Diocesan Mission Office operates with the help of the Diocesan Centre, Parish Administrators and Missionary members.
Members volunteer from the Diocese of London for specific programs and projects. All missionary members and partners are called to administer mission programs and projects that are consistent with Catholic values and principles.
Charity Registration with Revenue Canada has been maintained since 1967 by following CRA guidelines for registered charities. The Diocesan Mission Commission is also known by Revenue Canada as; "Mission Office, DOL" - "Mission Services, DOL" - Diocese of London Missions.
Financial gifts and support should be forwarded to the Mission Office through Parishes and local faith communities.
