Windsor's historic Assumption Church is set to reopen on Sunday
Windsor's historic Assumption Church is going to reopen this Sunday. Closed since November 2014, Assumption Church will return to regular use this Sunday, September 8, 2019, when the Most The Most Rev. Ronald P. Fabbro, CSB, will celebrate Mass at 11 am.
Following Mass, from noon to 2:30 pm, a parish BBQ celebration will be held on the church grounds
Since May 2019 the church has been undergoing Phase 1 of a restoration project. Work on the new copper roof is now complete and work will continue this fall on the new heating system and other mechanical and electrical upgrades. There is some protective hoarding over the side altars, and the side pews are roped off – this is for safety due to possible loose plaster yet to be restored.
Regarding the other historic church in Assumption Parish, Holy Name of Mary Church: Although the parish will not be having Masses there, the will continue to use the building – for example namely for the Assumption Cares community outreach program, and the Holy Name of Mary conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
