On behalf of the Catholic community of the Diocese of London, I want to express to our brotherssisters of the Jewish community our deep sorrow and support as you mourn the eleven people killed at Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.
This horrible act of violence is a clear manifestation of anti-Semitism. On Sunday, Pope Francis prayed for all those affected by the deadly attack. He said that “we are all wounded by this inhuman act of violence”, and he prayed that God “might help us to extinguish the hotbeds of hatred that develop in our society”.
At this time of great distress, I wish to reach out to our Jewish brothers and sisters to assure you of our solidarity with you and our prayers. May our merciful God take those who were killed into his loving arms and comfort those who grieve their loss, and may God’s peace reign in our hearts and in the world.
