At the conclusion of his Angelus address this past Sunday, the Holy Father invited all the Church to observe the Friday of the first week of Lent, i.e., Feb. 23, as a day of prayer and fasting for peace in the many areas of conflict throughout the world, particularly the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan. The Bishops of Canada have received a letter from the Apostolic Nuncio to Canada, Archbishop Luigi Bonazzi, which speaks “of the deep desire of Pope Francis that all the Church be united with him in this day of prayer.”
