On 4 February, 2019, during his Apostolic Journey to the United Arab Emirates, Pope Francis and His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, co-signed an historic document entitled “Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” with the aim, as the document states,“of finding a universal peace that all can enjoy in this life.”
The Holy Father has mandated the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue to disseminate the document in “every place and sector of the Church and Society.” Therefore, at the request of the same Pontifical Council, the Diocese of London is sharing the document below, in English and French.
The document also states:
“Al-Azhar and the Catholic Church ask that this Document become the object of research and reflection in all schools, universities and institutes of formation, thus helping to educate new generations to bring goodness and peace to others, and to be defenders everywhere of the rights of the oppressed and of the least of our brothers and sisters.”
