At the conclusion of his Angelus address this past Sunday, the Holy Father invited all the Church to observe the Friday of the first week of Lent, i.e., Feb. 23, as a day of prayer and fasting for peace in the many areas of conflict throughout the world, particularly the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan.

"With conflict continuing in many parts of the world, the pope said it was time for a special day of prayer and fasting for peace and that it was appropriate for the observance to take place Feb. 23, a Friday in Lent."
