Position: Full-time Senior Accountant Work Location: Heavenly Rest Cemetery, 5005 Howard Avenue, LaSalle ON Commitment: 37.5 hours per week Compensation: Management salary commensurate with experience and within diocesan policies. This position is eligible for participation in DOL benefit and pension programs. Posting Date: April 10, 2025 Closing Date: May 2, 2025 POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Office Manager, the Senior Accountant works as part of the management team and is accountable for ensuring timely and accurate financial transactions and reporting for all areas of accounting for the Diocese of London’s Cemeteries operations.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Oversees all financial accounting aspects of the cemeteries, including: reconciling, budgeting, reporting, managing cash flow, internal financial statement preparation, timely completion of audits, payroll and benefit administration, etc.
Provides input in the development and implementation of financial strategies to ensure operational funding is aligned with priorities of the Cemeteries’ 5-year strategic plan.
Ensures financial operations are in compliance with application legislation, including BAO regulations, Employment Standards Act, etc.
Supervises, directs, trains and supports the Accounts Payable Clerk.
Assists parish cemeteries as requested with financial based questions and/or reporting requirements.
Assists with trust fund management and reconciliation.
Maintains cemetery records and inventory.
Provides input in the review, development and implementation of policies, procedures and practices.
Works in a manner to ensure operational decisions align with the expectations and policies of the Diocese of London.
Provides timely and polite response to customers, both internal and external.
May represent the Diocese of London Cemeteries at industry events, professional development, and/or training sessions.
Other duties of a similar nature as assigned by the Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Diploma or degree in Accounting from a recognized institution.
Minimum of three years of relevant direct experience in accounting, including performing:
Internal financial reporting
Audit working paper preparation
External government reporting
Creating and presenting financial reports
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of highly sensitive materials.
Proven ability to properly and effectively prioritize and multi-task.
Proficient in the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.
Prior direct experience working with accounting software (Microsoft GP).
Prior supervisory experience is an asset.
Excellent interpersonal, planning, organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).
Collaborative, supportive, flexible team player with a high degree of initiative.
Resourceful self-starter with thorough attention to detail with a desire to produce quality projects and results.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
Prior experience working in a unionized environment is beneficial.
Friendly, hospitable, and professional representative of the Diocese of London at all times.
An understanding of and desire to support and promote the mission of the Diocese of London Cemeteries.
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
